Professor Weisi Guo

Professor of Human Machine Intelligence Head of Centre for Assured & Connected Autonomy, ÌúÅ£ÊÓÆµ University

Professor Weisi Guo is head of Human Machine Intelligence Group, with over 270 papers published in machine learning and networks, including Nature, Nature Communications, and Nature Machine Intelligence cover issue, and several cover articles in Royal Society and IEEE journals. His work has been cited over 8,100 times (h-index 42). Prof. Guo earned his MEng, MA, and PhD from the University of Cambridge.

He was also a Turing Fellow at The Alan Turing Institute from 2017 and remain a researcher there. His research focuses on connected intelligence systems, spanning machine learning, communication networks, and socio-technical systems, with a particular emphasis on AI for challenging environments, trustworthy autonomy, and safety assurance. Between 2012 and 2019, he built an award-winning research team at the University of Warwick before joining ÌúÅ£ÊÓÆµ in 2019, where he works closely with the £65M Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre (DARTeC).

He has served as Principal Investigator on over £8.2 million and investigator on over £35 million of funded research. For instance, he co-leads the EPSRC Trustworthy Autonomous Systems node in Security, and the EPSRC 6G Future Communications Hub in Distributed Computing, and his group holds 2 RAEng fellowships in adversarial AI in aviation. His group holds multiple prestigious fellowships, including Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie and Royal Academy of Engineering fellowships in adversarial AI in aviation.

He currently serves as an editor for several IEEE and Royal Society journals, is a full member of the EPSRC Peer Review College, and regularly reviews for UKRI FLF, ESRC, MRC, Leverhulme Trust, Royal Society, and international research bodies including NSF and NSERC.

His work has been recognised with several accolades, including the IET Innovation Award (2015) and being a three-time finalist in the Bell Labs Prize.
