Background
Nemanja is an experienced finance academic with a strong publication record in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, covering areas such as financial institutions, corporate finance and governance, and innovative finance topics including initial coin offerings. He is a proven educator and academic leader across undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive education, with significant expertise in programme development, international rankings (FT and QS), quality assurance, and accreditation processes.
At ÌúÅ£ÊÓÆµ University, he leads the executive education programme Introduction to Financial Management and serves as module leader for courses in financial data analytics, financial markets, regulation and ethics, financial management, and corporate financial strategy.
Nemanja joined ÌúÅ£ÊÓÆµ University in 2018. Prior to that, Nemanja held positions in UK - Middlesex University, Huddersfield University, London Metropolitan University, and in Italy - Roma Tre University.
He has successfully supervised six PhD students to completion and previously served as Director of the FT- and QS-ranked MSc Finance programmes, including MSc Finance and Management and MSc Investment Management.
In addition to his academic work, Nemanja has served on the scientific advisory board of an investment management firm and currently acts as a non-executive board member at a primary school.
He holds a PhD in Banking and Finance from the University of Rome II "Tor Vergata"', Italy.
Current activities
Nemanja’s research spans a broad range of areas within finance and economics, including financial markets and institutions, corporate finance and governance, industrial organisation, and emerging markets. His specialist expertise focuses on efficiency and competition within the financial services industry, shareholder value creation, risk management, and financial regulation and supervision.
He has successfully secured competitive research funding from organisations including the Italian Ministry of Education and the Czech Science Foundation, and is an active contributor to internationally recognised academic conferences.
He is author of a number of refereed journal articles in outlets including Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Services Research, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, European Journal of Finance, Financial Markets, Institutions and Instruments Journal, British Journal of Management, and Small Business Economics. His research on investment banking efficiency and shareholder value received the International Finance and Banking Society Best Young Researcher Award.
He currently serves as Associate Editor of International Journal of Financial Studies and Frontiers in Finance and Economics Journal. In addition, he acts as ad-hoc referee for journals in finance, economics, econometrics and statistics, and operations research and management science subject area.
Nemanja also serves as External Examiner at University of Essex and University of Greenwich.
